Year 12 Formal Celebrations

On Tuesday night the Brisbane Adventist College Formal finally rolled around for this year’s graduates. Forty Year 12 students wowed family, teachers and friends as they emerged from their vintage vehicles (and the odd jalopy) in glamorous frocks and tailored suits, stepping out onto the red carpet at the Powerhouse Museum.

After enjoying pre-dinner drinks with family, they sat down to dine, take selfies, reminisce, laugh and cry together and formally thank their teachers in speeches. They were then bussed back to an afterparty at the student centre, where all was prepared for them to have some fun and let their hair down.

Fairy lights, a jumping castle, giant Connect4, Jenga and Twister, ping pong table, photo booth, snacks, lolly bar, soft drinks, and cupcakes decorated with a miniature graduation hat and plaque with each student’s name on it gave them a nostalgic reminder of the childhood they were leaving behind. After a couple of hours of playing, most crashed out on comfy lounges and gymnastics mattresses soon after midnight. Several dedicated parents quietly cleared up around them, then woke them at 6am to freshen up and change back into their formal outfits for Chapfast.

Chapfast is a chaplain-hosted breakfast and a long tradition at BAC. It is a lovely ritual where Year 6 graduates cross the creek and mingle with the secondary students who arrive early to ooh and aah over their outfits. Teachers have an even earlier start, preparing the food before serving it to the students on a long table set up on the oval.

NOTE: Thank you to parents, students and friends who supplied photos from these events:
