Student Leaders at 'UQ Create Change Leadership Forum'

Four BAC student leaders recently attended the UQ Create Change Leadership Forum.  This inaugral event hosted by UQ included two very different and both very inspiring presentations by young people who have 'created change' in our community.

The first presentation was by Madeline Price, founder of the One Woman Project and organiser of the Gender Pay Gap Bake Sale at UQ.  Madeline told some of her story and what motivated her.  Upon completing Year 12, she visited a school in Cambodia run by an aid organisation, and was shocked to find only boys in attendance.  It made me reflect how sometimes we may take our opportunity of a quality education for granted!

The second inspiring presentation was from Nic and Lucas, the two Young Australians of the Year who founded Orange Sky Laundry - free mobile laundry for the homeless.  An amazing story that is impacting lives of real people every single day around Australia - and soon in the USA.  The laundry service to them is just a means of helping to connect their homeless friends back into the community.

What was special about both presentations was that neither were creating change having come from a position of power or authority.  Both saw a need and set about finding a way to make the lives of others better.  What a challenge for each of us!
